Washington Military Housing
Granted statehood in 1889, Washington was named in honor of George Washington; it's the just U.S. state named after a president. Superb seaports and the state's coastal location have given to its function as a leader in trade with Canada, Alaska and states of the Pacific Rim. The majestic Mount Rainier is the highest summit in the continental USA and soars above Seattle. The Evergreen State is the leader manufacturer of apples in the country and is the house of the coffee chain Star dollars. Renowned Washingtonians contain entertainer Bing Crosby musician Jimi Hendrix and computer innovator Bill Gates.
This base is homeport of the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, two destroyers, three frigates and two Coast Guard cutters/vessels.
A military member assigned to TDY (Temporary Duty) or has PCS (Permanent Change of Station) orders to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Everett, the most modern naval station in the U.S., will reside in Everett, Washington, 25 miles north of Seattle. The Housing Services Center (HSC), found on base, is the one-stop store for housing info and support services.
Childcare and Schooling
Sadly, there are no on base schools so one must find a private/public school off base. Hint: Before coming, contact the Naval Station Everett School Liaison Officer for guidance or help about the neighborhood school districts nearby. For those, instead, who want a college degree, there's the Navy College Office (NCO) on base.
Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) jobs are accessible for all those that seek employment on base. Hint: To help bring it to the Fleet & Family Readiness Support Office on base, make sure you complete the Military Spouse Employment Preference Form and ensure a job place. Off base employment is an alternative also.
Interesting Thing to Do
For family entertainment, there's not much other than playing intramural sports, or visiting the foundation theater, fitness center, but off base, there are lots of recreational sites to go to. Both the Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) office and Liberty (single sailor) plan on base have great opportunities to get folks out and away from the base and take excursions, tours, as well as /or attend special events in your community or afar when not at sea.
Washington's climate fluctuates considerably as it gets wet and humid frequently as an effect of being near the Pacific Ocean.
